Outfit post: Thursday

This is my superhero outfit! I love all the bright colors together; it's definitely a bit different than my usual grey/purple scheme. I would usually consider this dress a more than a little too short for work, but my office is so casual I figure with tights it's ok. And eeek, the entire outfit, down to the wedge-heel navy rainboots, is from Target.

God, the lighting in the photo is terrible. This outfit was terribly cozy; loads of creamy cableknit! That sweater + dress combo makes me feel like wearing I'm my jimmers to work, so I had to make it a bit more day-time with the boots. Hiding behind the sweater is the dress's lovely gathered neckline:

Also, a close-up of the cute socks. They were labeled as "thigh high" but are more over-the-knee on my lovely muscled-and-chubby legs.

Dress, sweater, and navy tights from Gap. Cable-knit over-the-knee socks from Target. Boots from Duo boots (love!).

Outfit post: Tuesday

I love this purple jersey top from Old Navy - it hugs all my curves just right. Jeans from Gap, blazer from Target.

Hoodies in 3-D glasses

Our souvenirs from Coraline. Pretty wicked awesome, I know. The movie was pretty cool; it was the first 3-D movie I had ever seen!

Outfit post: Monday

You may notice I dress in the same general color scheme 90% of the time - purples and greys. I do own things in other colors, too, I swear!

Camisole and cardi from Gap, crewneck and trousers from Target.

My haul from the Bookmill

Gabriel Garcia Marquez - Chronicle of a Death Foretold
EM Forster - Howard's End
Isabel Allende - Ines of My Soul
Emma Donahue - Slammerkin
Cornelia Funke - Inkheart
Brian Hall - The Saskiad
Jamie O'Neill - At Swim, Two Boys

I already read Howard's End, but how cute is this 1956 cover?

I just this morning started reading the 650-page At Swim, Two Boys, and I'm already drawn in to the 1915 Dublin world. Also, I think my book gaydar is working - I had been drawn to At Swim, Two Boys originally because of the historical setting, but in reading more about it realized it's very much about the relationship which develops between the titular young men. The Saskiad as well portrays a young girl who develops a sexual crush on her close female friend. Though I have a feeling neither ends well.

Yay for the Rose!

Thank fucking god.

There's still talk of selling off pieces of artwork, which I still find more than objectionable, but hopefully this means that the rash decision of closing the entire museum will not be considered again.

Coraline

I know that Jennifer, who is a big fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas, really wants to see Coraline, and I have to say, the more I read about it the more I do, too. The only other Neil Gaiman book/movie adaptation I've read/seen, Stardust, I absolutely adore. I also love the fact that everything in Coraline is handmade, from characters to clothing to sets and props. Plus it's in 3-D! Might have to be a consideration for our next date night.

New winter coat!

I love winter coats. Before this, I owned four wool coats of varying lengths and shades as well as a puffy snow coat for snow-angel days. Every single year the new shapes, colors, and details on the array of wool coats tempt me so much. I held out this year for quite a while, until this coat at Target finally went on sale in my size.

It's an amazing combination of military - scratchy navy wool, anchor-detail buttons, double-breasted - and princessy - the swishy, pleated skirt. I am undeniably in love. The major downside is that the buttons are sewn on quite shoddily and one has already popped off. I'll be spending tonight sewing that one back on and shoring up the rest so I can wear it tomorrow, with my favorite scarf from Prague:

Outfit post: Sunday

I wore this to visit my girl's brother and his girlfriend in central MA. We had a yummy diner lunch, at which I consumed at least 4 fried foods on one plate, then went to the awesome Montague Bookmill (more on that later), and had Thai food for dinner. Jennifer loves this skirt so even though it's a little short for work I like wearing it for her on our days off together.

Jersey blouse from Old Navy, black cableknit sweatervest from Walmart, lilac cardie and tweed mini-skirt from Gap, textured tights from Target, maryjanes by Doc Marten, scarf from a tourist shop in Prague.
