Because sometimes sexism is hilarious

I love the vintage sexism posts on Feministing, so this fabulous ad posted on Sociological Images made me giggle in an oh-how-misguided-some-people-are sort of way.

"Vitamins?" Really, vitamins? I do think I'm going to try to use this on my girl - "but babe, the more you clean the house, the cuter you look! Don't you want to go vacuum now?"

Instant gratification

After seeing the new Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S Holly of Decor8 and Haus Maus just bought, I fell in love. It's so cute and mod and sci-fi and it gives you these adorable, business card-sized instant pictures. As someone who always loved the aesthetic of Poloroids but never had their own, I'm very into this new incarnation.

They run about $80 + shipping and film at Japanese Trend Shop and can also be found on ebay.

This. Is. SPARTA!

The Sparta in liquid silver.

I'm loving Birkenstock's new gladiator sandals. I'm tempted, but I do already own a pair of silver birks. I am also loving these grey woven sandals for people like my girl who prefer ankle-strap sandals.

Google

Google's had some really good front page images lately, but I love today's in honor of impressionist painter Mary Cassatt's birthday.

Pushing Daisies

I saw a car today with a Ned & Chuck Forever bumper sticker and it reminded me I still have yet to watch the final three episodes of Pushing Daisies. (The bumper sticker also made me giggle as it was on a big fuck off SUV)

Besides the cute Piemaker and the inventive storylines, I loved the show for its costuming and sets, which were imaginative, whimsical, and fabulously vintage inspired with a modern sensibility. I mostly want all of Chuck's wardrobe:

Her pretty, loose waves also inspired me to want to grow my hair out. Although it's certainly growing its wave in, it still has a long way to go to being long and loose.

Any shows you find particularly inspiring?

Shoes!

The multi-print Tobbyn from Target.

I just got these over the weekend after considering them for a good long time. I'm envisioning rocking their 70s vibe with wide-leg, high waisted trouser jeans, a tucked in shirt, and a wide leather belt. Or with a high-waisted full skirt and tank top, to make my legs look ever-so-long.

I am also currently loving spring-y printed wedges.

Marimba Wedges at Anthropologie

Elizabeth Slingback Wedges at Target (they have my middle name! I must have them!)

Laria wedges at Piperlime

Today I'm wearing cheery green, courtesy of Jennifer's green Target wedges and my Anthro dress with its green grosgrain belt.

Swimsuit season

While I am so not a beach person (too many bad lobster-like sunburns in my youth), I find myself drawn to all the new swimsuits every spring. I especially like fun, pin-up, vintage looking ones. I've rocked two basic black tankinis for a while now, liking that they keep me mostly covered up while showing off my best - ahem - assets. But last year I finally decided that I liked my round tummy and bought a bikini. Still basic black, however.

You can also see my hair just-barely-grown-out from shaving it last summer.

But, when I saw this cute vintage-y polka dot top on sale at Target I fell in love.

However, due to a lack of bottoms in my size, I opted to leave it. But now I find myself pining. It also comes in green and black and has plenty of availability online.

So, cute but ultimately impractical? Should I go back and try other colors and see if I can find some britches that cover me bum?

Happy Mother's Day!

I was very lucky to have my mom here with me to celebrate her day! We had a great time - starting with eggs benedict, her favorite, for brunch, then going shopping and to the zoo, and ending with a steak dinner.

Because we both went to Wellesley, I made her a shadow box and photo album of Wellesley then and now, complete with pictures of each of us our senior years. I love that I can share that with her!

Back at work

So, I've been two weeks on my new job (post-Target, yay!) and liking it so far. The best news is that I have downtime occasionally and therefore can blog!

Brief rundown of things I'm obsessed with lately:

Singer Mal Blum. She's gay and adorable and sings songs to her ukulele. What's not to love? I listen to her album on repeat.

Neil Gaiman. I read Stardust around when the movie came out and loved it, and I recently picked up three more of his books (American Gods, Coraline, and Neverwhere) and have devoured them one after another.

Target's Trapunto Dress. I bought it in blue and magenta last year, and it's back this year in a whole bunch of colors so I bought it in the purple below. I need more!
