Lush

I went to see Only Lovers Left Alive last night and felt like it deserved a bit of lushness in my wardrobe choices. Alas, I don't have any of the gorgeous embroidered garments like Tilda Swinton wears at moments in the film, but I went with some brocade and wool to ward off the not-quite-spring chill.

Long

I have quite a long torso and that, combined with my generous bosom, can make wearing some sweaters difficult if I don't want to show my midriff any time I move. But I ordered this pair of high-waisted skinny jeans last week, and it's possible they are the answer to all my long-torsoed prayers! I'm loving the silhouette they give me. Plus dinosaur earrings!

Moto Plaid

The temp dropped a bit again the middle of the week, which let me pull out this plaid wool motorcycle jacket which really only seems to work in the in-between bits of the seasons. I bought it at the same time as this little zip-pocket shift dress, and I really adore the two pieces together!

Party in the Back

I apologize for that awful title. Nonetheless, this top is possibly the best interpretation of the 'mullet' trend I've ever seen, and I'm thrilled that it's finally warm enough to wear it without disguising the lovely back with a cardigan.

Cowpoke

Perhaps because of my ranch upbringing, I've avoided anything too "country" for a while now; cowboy boots and the like just feel a bit false now that I'm a city girl! But today I couldn't resist playing it a little cowgirl, albeit with my newest minty-green boots and a floaty dress to celebrate the tentative beginnings of spring.

Lazy

It seems I have yet to find a short, striped, knit dress that I can resist, but this outfit shows why: they're the most effortless pieces for layering and comfort on those long studying days.

Willful

We've all heard "dress for the job you want," but sometimes I think you should also "dress for the weather you want." It's still in the thirties out, with no flowers as far as the eye can see, but with a scarf, hat, and gloves, I was able to still enjoy this wishful-thinking springtime outfit.

Quite pleased with my mix of patterns today: floral pocket square, check blazer, plaid waistcoat, polka dot shirt, even herringbone socks!

Neoclassical

I had a presentation on a neoclassical sculpture on Saturday at the MIA and couldn't resist a quick pose in front of the neoclassical facade as well!

Conference

I presented at a graduate student conference over the weekend; after doing the work of getting the paper together, the most important part is clearly what to wear. So, with a little input from some friends, I picked out my favorite snakeskin patterned dress and this sharp little blazer, which I don't have enough opportunity to wear. The necklace is a repurposed mother-of-pearl silverware handle and was a huge hit at the conference! (As was my paper, thank goodness!)

Smart Rabbit

This sweater came in a little care package from my mom last week, and though I'm not sure I would have picked it out myself, I'm absolutely tickled that she thought I would like it, because I do! It's just the right amount of sweet with a little bit of sardonic. Who can resist a bespectacled bunny?

Crafty

This dress was my spring break non-academic project, and I'm terribly pleased with it. I've worn it half-a-dozen times already. It's Colette Pattern's Laurel, in a beautiful soft wool flannel, fully lined, with an exposed gold zipper. I've already got a few ideas for other fabrics I'll use for this lovely pattern!

Armored

This is an oldie from early in the winter, but recently rediscovered. I snagged these amazing silver ankle boots on a gift card from Macy's and am pleased as all get-out with them: they're shiny and sturdy and armor-like and just the right amount of dandy for me.
