Yoghurt?

I realize this is an odd thing to post about, but I picked up a few pots of the most amazing handmade Irish yog(h)urt yesterday and wanted to share.

Glenilen Farm Handmade Raspberry yoghurt

I picked up raspberry and strawberry and they do not disappoint so far! Very tart, and liquidy like a yogurt smoothie, they are creamy, full of fruit bits, and delicious! I also saw apple and rubarb, which I may try out later. They're in cute little glass jars, which I am keeping to hold things like bobby pins.

I felt like mixing some patterns today! I wore this outfit to a reading by the awesome Emma Donoghue at Trinity and some library time, then a (not-so)quick visit to my new favorite place in the whole world, Hodges Figgis bookstore (more on that later!).

Emma Donoghue talked about her new book, Room, which you should all read! It's shortlisted for the Booker prize and is incredibly moving. Her past novels have dealt with modern life in Dublin as well as historical British life, frequently exploring the experiences of lesbians within those cultures. She also has edited and written anthologies on lesbian literary history. All in all, she's pretty awesome.

I haven't slept too well the past few days, so when it came time to pick out an outfit this morning, all I wanted was coziness! It's a bit shapeless but purposefully so, I like to think. This is also my new cable-knit sweater, picked up at Penneys/Primark for a song!

Outfit Post: Chico's kind of day

Yes, this is a shameful secret, but this scarf is from Chico's. You know, purveyor of overly-beaded, overly-sequined, "flowy" old-lady clothes. My mom loves it. Which is not surprise to anyone who knows my mom, who loves her some "ethnic" prints. But, when dragged in there with her on a shopping trip I am occasionally susceptible to a fun accessory (plus she paid for the scarf, so no harm, no foul). Whatevs, it's cute! I wore this outfit for a full day of library-going, getting myself familiar with the collections in the art history reading rooms here.

I snagged this skirt from a few my mom brought back from my grandmother's wardrobe, and it feels very 1960s to me, a tiny bit Joan Holloway although she favors pencil skirts over a-line skirts. I got loads of complements on it, too! People loved the bright color.

I'm dying to wear it with a polka-dot top, like Jen from Jenloveskev posted today. I am going to keep my eyes out for one...maybe at Primark?

Rings true

My mom and aunts have slowly been going through my grandparents' things since they passed away this past year. It's definitely an opportunity to reminisce and guess at the stories behind some of the items. While I was home, my mom showed me some of the jewelry that had belonged to my grandparents and my great-great aunts before them in some cases. She gifted me with a few pieces, including the typing award I showed earlier. One of the more peculiar items was this (men's size) ring. I really want to know the story behind it!

Unfortunately it is not real gold so it turns my fingers black when I wear it!

Dublin: Merrion Square Park

Just a couple of pictures from Merrion Square Park over the weekend. It's very cute and is generally pretty quiet, at least compared to the nearby St. Stephan's Green. It's also right next to the National Gallery, National Library, and a branch of the National Museum (natural history, I think?). Most importantly, though, it is home to the most important sculpture in Ireland, that of queer patron saint Oscar Wilde. Love!

Outfit Post: Fastest Hands in the West

I love that it's cool enough here to wear my tweed "professor" blazer (it has suede elbow patches!). I paired it with trouser-cut jeans and my explorer boots and, best of all, this little badge found amount my grandparent's things (my mom thinks it probably belonged to one of my great-aunts).
